Lucky Rabbit Pottery

Debra Kuzyk and Ray Mackie

Lucky Rabbit Pottery is a collaboration between Debra Kuzyk and Ray Mackie, who have been making pottery together for over 30 years. Debra sculpts, paints and carves on the vessels and tiles formed by Ray.

For 23 years Debra operated the Lucky Rabbit pottery shop in Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia 1999 – 2022. Together they have produced functional pottery, exhibition pieces and tile work for public and private commissions. Currently Deb and Ray work from their home studios, collaborating as well as working independently.

Recipients of numerous awards and honours, their work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and is included in permanent collections such as the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, the Burlington Art Gallery and the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art in Toronto.

“This type of shared production is never easy, but it has also resulted in pottery magic. There are times when we work as one to produce a single unique object, which transcends what either could achieve independently. It is a bit like being in a two person band, or two dancers in a pas de deux. The result is the consequence of many hours of shared effort and negotiation.”
